The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) is a research fund set up by the Australian Government in 2015. In December 2023, it grew to $22 billion. The net interest from the fund pays for important health and medical research projects with the objective of improving the health and wellbeing of Australians.
Congratulations to Prof Peter Vuillermin (Child Health Research Unit at Barwon Health and IMPACT) and Dr Samantha Dawson (Food and Mood Centre, IMPACT), pictured, whose $2.92m MRFF grant will support a clinical trial in collaboration with Barwon Health, Grampians Health and Colac Area Health. The trial will test a midwife-delivered prenatal dietary intervention to prevent perinatal depression and child neurocognitive vulnerability in regional and rural communities.
Congratulations also to Barwon Health’s Dr Denise Jones, Allied Health Research and Knowledge Translation Lead, and Lauren Woodall, Physiotherapist, who are part of a $2.88m MRFF grant led by the University of Tasmania to adapt and implement a new model of care for people living with Parkinson’s disease in rural and remote Australia.
We wish both research teams the very best for their projects.
