Embarking on research can feel intimidating, but we are here to help.

At Barwon Health we encourage you to conduct research projects within your department.

You will be mentored by experienced and recognised senior medical and research staff, and supported by experts in biostatistics, data management, research design and ethics.

Watch this video to find out how to get started.

The Barwon Health Research Development Unit (RDU) is here to help you plan your research project and submit your application. Email rdu@barwonhealth.org.au and a member of the RDU team will get back to you within 24 hours.

Once you’ve had a taste of research and are interested in a more formal research experience, Barwon Health offers Masters and PhD opportunities in partnership with Deakin University. Speak with your department head to find out more.

Useful resources for new researchers

STaRR and STaRRlite Emerging Researcher Training

The STaRR Emerging Researcher 10 week mentored training program provides health practitioners with the foundational research skills needed to develop a research translation-focused project, ie a project that will develop evidence that will lead to changes in practice or policy, or use existing evidence to change current practice or policy.

Want to dip your toe in first? STaRRlite is a half-day online, introductory research training workshop for health practitioners with little or no previous research or quality improvement experience who want to gain foundational knowledge & skills to begin health research or quality improvement projects.

All health practitioners, including clinicians, program managers and health promotion staff working in health service or primary care settings at Western Alliance partner organisations (including Barwon Health) are invited to apply.

Western Alliance covers the cost of the training program, so you do not need to pay to participate.
