ANZCA Novice Investigator Grants

The novice investigator(s) will be the chief investigator(s) of the grant application and will undertake most of the research personally, under the supervision of experienced colleagues. A novice is an investigator who:

• May have been awarded previous grant funding as a principle investigator provided no single grant has exceeded $10,000.
• Has not published more than five research papers in the five years prior to the year of application.
• Does not have an experienced investigator as a co-investigator on the proposed grant.

The maximum amount available for a novice investigator grant is $A20,000.

• The Withers and Peters Grant provides AU$25,000 grant support to Radiation Oncology Fellows up to five years post-Fellowship and trainees post-Phase 2 exams to carry out significant research projects.

Cancer Australia Jeannie Ferris Award

Award Category 2 recognises outstanding contributions made by researchers and health professionals of all disciplines involved in cancer research or clinical care, including (but not limited to) specialists, primary care practitioners, nursing and allied health professionals.

The Viertel Charitable Foundation

Establishment grants for Clinical Investigators are intended to assist new investigators to establish their research programs at the time of the difficult transition from doctoral and post-doctoral training posts to their first definitive clinical positions in an academic environment. Clinical Investigators will be awarded a once only grant of $90,000.

Applicants should be actively engaged in clinical work and pursuing health and medical research in a university clinical department, a teaching hospital, a clinical research unit of a research institute or in an academic general practice setting.

Senior Medical Research Fellowships

The Foundation’s Senior Medical Research Fellowship is intended to be amongst the most prestigious awards available to those who wish to continue a career in medical research in Australia. The fellowship is a 5 year initiative valued at $275,000 per annum.

Outstanding researchers who are medically qualified, or graduates of another scientific discipline with recognised post-doctoral achievements, seeking to establish a research career in Australia and undertake research in an Australia academic institution are eligible to apply.

2024 Rose Amarant Grant (1 year @$7500) to a gastroenterology unit or practice that treats inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients for an IBD clinical project, based on the “Quality Use of Medicines Principles” or that is related to the broader clinical aspects of IBD Management.

Dr John Dixon Hughes OAM Medal

The Medal will be awarded with a prize of $50,000.

The Medal will be awarded to the researcher judged to be responsible for the best biomedical innovation and development paper published, patent taken out, or commercial-in-confidence report in the previous two calendar years. Innovations will include Australian research and discoveries into new medicines, vaccines, biologicals, devices, tools or diagnostics.

ACRF Annual Research Grants

ACRF is a ‘seed’ funding body and is therefore interested in applications for larger scale research projects with value over and above the amount sought directly from ACRF. Ramaciotti Health Investment Grants of up to $100,000

These Grants are awarded to individuals in universities, public hospitals, or institutes for a contribution towards the undertaking of health or medical research with a potential path to clinical application within five years.

One Mind Rising Star Awards

Gilead Australia Fellowship: Grants Program

Financial grants will be awarded to individuals, organisations or groups of healthcare providers within a locality whose proposals are focused on investigating solutions to improve care for people living with the above conditions.

The Grants Program is unable to provide funding for basic research projects or clinical studies focussed on specific therapeutic agents.

PhD Completion Support Grant: supports a nurse or midwife currently undertaking a PhD in an area of nursing/midwife practice. Up to $40,000.

Four Seed Grants up to $80,000 in total per 18-month grant, for early and early-mid career researchers for projects addressing at least one research priority area:

• Developing health services and pathways to improve early identification of stroke with a specific focus on underserved communities

Tim Glendinning Memorial Young Adult Stroke Grant 

One grant of up to $75,000 available to researchers of any career stage for a 2-year project that addresses the needs of young adults who may feel isolated and marginalised after stroke.

Nancy & Vic Allen Stroke Prevention Memorial Grant

One grant of up to $100,000 available to researchers of any career stage for a 2-year project that addresses primary prevention of stroke including feasibility and implementation studies to manage stroke-specific risk factors (e.g. atrial fibrillation, high blood pressure). Management approaches may include evidence-based integrative healthcare, behavioural change and education strategies

Grants will be awarded to a maximum of $120,000 per annum, for up to 3 years.

Perpetual IMPACT Philanthropy Application Program (IPAP)

Universities, hospitals and medical research institutes may submit a maximum of three applications per organisation from different departments. Funding is usually for a single one-off grant and the amount varies from $10,000 to $100,000. Funding is provided for a wide range of projects at different developmental stages including (but not limited to) pilot and existing projects, capacity building and operational costs. Funding direct to individuals is not permitted.
