The Forget Me Not Dementia Research Initiative
The Forget Me Not Dementia Research Initiative has been launched through the generosity of local fundraisers in the Geelong region who have cared for and supported loved ones with dementia, and with the support of the Barwon Health Foundation.

Funds raised through the inaugural 2024 Forget Me Not Ball will enable allocation of two grants to Barwon Health clinicians in 2025 that support:
- growth in high-quality, clinician-driven dementia research at Barwon Health
- an increase in impactful engagement by Barwon Health clinician researchers with Australian and international research collaborators
- increased opportunities for growth in early career clinician researcher capability.
Forget Me Not grants will be available annually through until 2028, supported through the Barwon Health Foundation.
Forget Me Not Grants
FMN grants are intended to support clinically embedded dementia research at Barwon Health that delivers:
- evidence-based innovation through rigorous research embedded in clinical practice
- improved consumer outcomes and experience
- increased clinician research capability
- nationally competitive funding applications
- high impact publications
- workforce engagement.
Two grants are available in 2025 to Barwon Health clinicians and joint Barwon – Deakin academic appointees partnering with Barwon Health clinicians:
- one team-based grant of up to $30,000, supporting multi-disciplinary team-based dementia research at Barwon Health
- one individual grant of up to $15,000 to support Masters-level, PhD or trainee dementia research at Barwon Health.
Grant funds must be expended within one year of final Barwon Health ethics and governance approval
Application Process
An Expression of Interest is required (template below), outlining a research project that is ready to commence. Additional information may be sought by the review panel where required to properly assess the application.

- Outcomes advised: August 2025
- Funding allocated: September 2025
