About us
Barwon Health has been conducting clinical trial research for more than 25 years. Our relationships with industry, universities and collaborators, provides experience with commercially sponsored clinical trials and collaborative investigator initiated projects.
All clinical trials at Barwon Health are conducted in accordance with the International Conference on Harmonisation Guidance on Good Clinical Practice (CPMP/ICH/135/95) and the National Statement of Ethical Conduct in Human Research.
Our health service cares for people throughout the Barwon South West Region. This region demonstrates a wide variation in demographic and socioeconomic indicators, which provides a diverse pool of trial participants volunteering for clinical trials at our organisation.
Barwon Health has experience conducting the following types of clinical trials:
- Inpatient, including critically ill patients that require responsible person consent, and outpatient trials
- Paediatrics and adult trials
- Phase Ib to Phase IV
- Device trials
- Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)
- Biologicals
In 2018/19, Barwon Health commenced 41 new clinical trials, screened 9,346 potential participants and enrolled 655 participants on recruiting clinical trials. As of 30 June 2019, there were 159 active trials being conducted by the organisation.
Adrian Costa Clinical Trials Centre
As the overarching system and infrastructure for conducting and reporting clinical trials at Barwon Health, the Adrian Costa Clinical Trials Centre will improve training opportunities, research capacity and consumer access to novel treatments in the Greater Geelong community.
